Type species: ¤ Sulfurococcus mirabilis Golovacheva et al. 1995.
Etymology: L. n. sulfur, sulfur; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Sulfurococcus, sulfur-oxidizing coccus.
