Type species: ¤ Thermacetogenium phaeum Hattori et al. 2000.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; L. n. acetum, vinegar; Gr. v. gennaô, produce, engender; N.L. neut. n. Thermacetogenium, thermophilic vinegar producer.

Etymology: N.L. neut. adj. phaeum (from Gr. neut. adj. phaion), brown, referring to the color of the colonies.
