Type species: ¤ Thermohalobacter berrensis Cayol et al. 2000.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, heat; Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Thermohalobacter, a thermophilic fermentative halophile.

Thermohalobacter berrensis Cayol et al. 2000, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. berrensis, pertaining to Berre, South of France.

Notes:
1 CNCM is solely set up to deal with deposits on a confidential basis (i.e. patent deposits under the Budapest Treaty). Strain CNCM 105955 is probably a patent deposit.
2 After the publication of the paper by Cayol et al. 2000, the strain CTT3 was also deposited in the CIP (accession number CIP 105955). However, the CIP was unable to make it grow.
