Thermonema lapsum Hudson et al. 1989, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain 23/9 = ATCC 43542 = DSM 5718.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: HE582775.
Etymology: L. neut. part. adj. lapsum (from L. v. labor, to glide), gliding.
Reference: HUDSON (J.A.), SCHOFIELD (K.M.), MORGAN (H.W.) and DANIEL (R.M.): Thermonema lapsum gen. nov., sp. nov., a thermophilic gliding bacterium. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1989, 39, 485-487.

Notes:
1 On page 487, the type strain is erroneously designated as ATCC 43532.
2 The etymology should be L. part. adj. lapsus a um (from L. v. labor, to glide), not L. n. (sic) lapsum (sic), glide.
