Type species: ¤ Thermotalea metallivorans Ogg and Patel 2009.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; L. fem. n. talea, a slender staff, rod; N.L. fem. n. Thermotalea, a rod-shaped thermophile.

Thermotalea metallivorans Ogg and Patel 2009, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain B2-1 = DSM 21119 = JCM 15105 = KCTC 5625.

Etymology: L. n. metallum, metal; L. v. vorare, to devour; N.L. part. adj. metallivorans, metal-devouring.
