Type genus: ¤ Thermotoga Stetter and Huber 1986.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Thermotoga, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Thermotogaceae, the Thermotoga family.
