Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. adj. phaeos, dark brown; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. n. kokkos a grain, berry), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Thiophaeococcus, brown sulfur(-reducing) coccus.
