Tsukamurella Collins et al. 1988, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Tsukamurellaceae Rainey et al. 1997).
Type species: ¤ Tsukamurella paurometabola corrig. (Steinhaus 1941) Collins et al. 1988.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Tsukamurella, named in honor of Michio Tsukamura, a celebrated Japanese microbiologist.

1 ¤ Corynebacterium paurometabolum Steinhaus 1941 (Approved Lists 1980) and ¤ Rhodococcus aurantiacus (ex Tsukamura and Mizuno 1971) Tsukamura and Yano 1985 exhibit high levels of sequence homology and these taxa should be reduced to a single species and reclassified in a new genus, Tsukamurella Collins et al. 1988 as Tsukamurella paurometabola corrig. (Steinhaus 1941) Collins et al. 1988.
2 The original spelling of the specific epithet, paurometabolum (sic), has been corrected by Euzéby 1998.
