Type species: ¤ Wigglesworthia glossinidia Aksoy 1995.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Wigglesworthia, named after the parasitologist W.B. Wigglesworth.

Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): description (the nomenclatural type is the primary endosymbiont found in the mycetocytes of Glossina morsitans morsitans).
