Classification (Warning: see also the file "Classification of prokaryotes: Introduction").

Yaniella Li et al. 2008, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Yaniellaceae Li et al. 2008).
Type species: ¤ Yaniella halotolerans (Li et al. 2004) Li et al. 2008.
Illegitimate synonym: ¤ Yania Li et al. 2004.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Yaniella, named after Xun-Chu Yan (1912-1994), a Chinese microbiologist who devoted his life to the study of actinomycete taxonomy and antibiotics.

Notes:
1 The name ¤ Yania Li et al. 2004 is illegitimate because it is a later homonym of Yania Roewer 1919 (Opiliones, Arachnida, Arthropoda, Animalia), and a later homonym of Yania Huang 1997 (Hesperiidae, Papilionoidea, Heteroneura, Glossata, Lepidoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia) [Principle 2]. Consequently, a new genus designation Yaniella has been proposed by Li et al. 2008.
2 The genus Yaniella Li et al. 2008 (the type genus of the family ¤ Yaniellaceae Li et al. 2008) is in most 16S rRNA gene sequence-based phylogenetic analyses a member of the family ¤ Micrococcaceae Pribram 1929 (Approved Lists 1980) and it appears debatable whether it deserves the status as the type genus of its own family Yaniellaceae.

Yaniella flava (Li et al. 2005) Li et al. 2008, comb. nov.
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain YIM 70178 = DSM 16377 = JCM 13595 = KCTC 19047.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: AY684123.
Illegitimate basonym: ¤ Yania flava Li et al. 2005.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. flava, golden yellow, referring to the colour of the colonies.
Reference: LI (W.J.), ZHI (X.Y.) and EUZÉBY (J.P.): Proposal of Yaniellaceae fam. nov., Yaniella gen. nov. and Sinobaca gen. nov. as replacements for the illegitimate prokaryotic names Yaniaceae Li et al. 2005, Yania Li et al. 2004, emend Li et al. 2005, and Sinococcus Li et al. 2006, respectively. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2008, 58, 525-527.
Original article in IJSEM Online

Note: ¤ Yania flava Li et al. 2005 is illegitimate because of precedence of the genus name Yania Roewer 1919 (Opiliones, Arachnida, Arthropoda, Animalia), and of precedence of the genus name Yania Huang 1997 (Hesperiidae, Papilionoidea, Heteroneura, Glossata, Lepidoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia) [Principle 2]. Consequently, a new species designation Yaniella flava (Li et al. 2005) Li et al. 2008 has been proposed by Li et al. 2008.
