Zavarzinia Meyer et al. 1994, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Zavarzinia compransoris (ex Nozhevnikova and Zavarzin 1974) Meyer et al. 1994.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Zavarzinia, named for Georgi Alexandrovich Zavarzin, the Russian microbiologist who with his co-workers made the first thorough investigation of mesophilic, Gram negative carboxidotrophic strains.

Zavarzinia compransoris (ex Nozhevnikova and Zavarzin 1974) Meyer et al. 1994, nom. rev., comb. nov. (Type species of the genus).
Type strain (see also StrainInfo.net): strain Z-1155 = ATCC 51430 = CCUG 15334 = DSM 1231 = LMG 5821 = LMG 8357.
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain: not found.
Synonyms: "Comamonas compransoris" Nozhevnikova and Zavarzin 1974, "Pseudomonas compransoris" (Nozhevnikova and Zavarzin 1974) Cypionka et al. 1980.
Etymology: L. n. compransor -oris, a companion in a banquet, a boon companion; L. gen. n.  compransoris, of a dinner companion.
